Lochee United 3 Montrose Roselea 0

Midlands League – 16/11/2024 @ Thomson Park

Match Report From Marten Kats

After the convincing 7-1 away win at Forfar West End, Lochee United were back Thomson Park for a game against Montrose Roselea. Last season the game ended in a 2-2 draw, so we were warned.

Lochee had most of the possession from the start. The first chance was for Kerr Hay who headed the ball on the post from close range after 10 minutes.

Shortly after, Ryan Paterson hit the crossbar from a distance shot, he hit the post soon after. Callum Moore then had a good freekick saved by the Roselea goalkeeper. The visitors had their first chance at the 18 minute mark but a good clearance by Paul Lunan prevented real danger.

After 22 minutes, Ryan Paterson opened the score for Lochee United after a shot that was mis-judged by the goalkeeper. Montrose Roselea then had a chance on the counter attack, but a great challenge by Aaron Donald stopped it. Lochee United kept attacking but without getting really dangerous. The score remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half was more of the same, with Lochee having most of the possession without creating many chances. Roselea were still looking dangerous on the break. Callum Moore had a distance shot just after the hour mark, but it was well saved. With 15 minutes left, Ryan Paterson took a quick corner and Callum Lamb finished well from close range to put the ‘Chee 2-0 up.

The goal was needed as the visitors were trying to push for an equaliser. Ryan Paterson scored Lochee’s third shortly after to put the result beyond doubt. Lochee kept looking for another goal and Louis Joyce was close but saw his attempt saved by the Roselea goalkeeper. The game finished 3-0, a fair outcome as Lochee United were dominant.

The back 4 all played well, resulting in Jamie McCabe in goal not having too much to do despite Roseline having some dangerous players up front. It was great to see Calvin Colquhoun back playing 90 minutes and playing very well. Callum Lamb and Callum Moore were both dangerous at times, but my man of the match is Ryan Paterson. He scored twice, contributed to Callum Lamb’s goal and created several other chances. A strong performance from him throughout. The next game is on Tuesday night away at Lochee Harp. As always COME ON THE ‘CHEE!
